Level 2.1 - Student Street

Students in Groningen live throughout the city in different neighbourhoods. Because of this, you’ll never feel alone. There are always people of your age close by. You know you’re in a student street when you see lots of bikes and some beer crates by the front door.

Level 2.2 - Student House

In the Netherlands, students normally don’t live on a campus. They live together in houses where everybody has their own room. Most of the time the kitchen and bathroom are shared. You can recognise a student house by all of the bikes in front of the house.

Level 1.6 - Westerhaven, Museum & Aa-kerk

The area around Westerhaven and the Aa-kerk is considered the oldest area in Groningen. There are many shops and restaurants here. Back in the day, Westerhaven was an important part of the city where potatoes and grains were delivered by boat. That’s why the closest grocery store is called the Korenbeurs – it is where grains were exchanged.

Level 1.7 - Noorderplantsoen

In the summer months the Noorderplantsoen is the backyard of almost every student in Groningen. It doesn’t matter where in the city you live: the Noorderplantsoen is the place to be for a picnic, barbecue or a fun get-together. Every year there’s a free cultural festival called Noorderzon (Northern sun) in the park.
